Welcome to Wagon Wheel Orchard, a small family-owned and operated orchard situated on the California and Oregon trails in western rural Johnson County, Kansas, specializing in variety!

As of Spring 2008 , there are over 1,000 trees and plants of over 150 varieties of fruits, vegetables, nuts, berries, herbs, and other plants, many antique and heirloom varieties, including the following:

Our passion for orchard management and all things to do with small farms in America comes from a family history rooted in traditional living. Great Uncle Essex developed the famed Fulton County (Illinois) apple in 1847.  Grandpa and Grandma Greuel established an Illinois farmstead and apple orchard in the 1940s that still stands today. Offspring of these original family heirloom trees now grace our own Kansas farmstead and are the foundation of our orchard. Managing an orchard invariably instills in you a love of the land and the fruits of your labor.

But you can't make a fruit salad with just apples! So we added many other fruit varieties.  And as long as we were planting, we added other trees and plants to share with you.

Since we cannot guarantee rain, prevent an early or late frost, or run the grasshoppers and caterpillars out of town, we needed to add even more variety to our business! And variety, we added! But how?  Artsy & craftsy kind of stuff!  Our long time hobbies of painting, sewing, woodworking, paper crafts, quilling, and the like, are now producing fun and exciting products that can be enjoyed by all and found in our shop, The Trading Post!

We are committed to providing you with quality produce and products for the home and garden at reasonable prices. We offer them to you on this website and at local arts & crafts shows. If you visit a local show or farmers market, please stop by and say hi! We love to meet the people who enjoy the produce we love to grow and the products we love to make.

And a super duper big thank you to our family, friends, and customers, and to Alex Trower, our incredibly talented and generous webmaster!

Enjoy your visit to Wagon Wheel Orchard!
